The Competition & How To Enter

Round One - The Elevator Pitch

Teams are required to submit a simple, one-page pitch to studentcompetitions@econ.usyd.edu.au by 5 p.m. Wednesday, 24 September 2008. This document just needs to briefly explain your proposed business. Feel free to include pictures, links, diagrams, sketches - anything you feel will help you better communicate your idea to us.

Entries will be judged by a panel of faculty, competition organisers and industry professionals. All successful entrants progressing to the next round shall be notified by Friday, 26 September 2008.

Round Two - The Workshops

Successful teams will be invited to attend in a series of student-led workshops on 3 and 4 October. These workshops have been arranged by the Faculty of Economics and Business, and will be in the areas of marketing, finance and strategy - each designed to help you construct your plan for the final round.

  • Marketing - this workshop covers the basics of marketing, focusing on how to market your product when entering the market for the first time. It will help entrants better understand how to develop a marketing plan for their new business.
  • Strategy - this workshop focuses on strategy for budding entrepreneurs. More specifically, it instructs entrants on how to analyse a potential market and how to develop a strategy for their business.
  • Finance - this workshop will cover the basics of finance and how to construct a financial model for their business.

Round Three - The Final Pitch

The final round of the competition will be held on Friday 17 October at the University of Sydney. Teams will be required to give a short presentation on their idea to the jury and submit their final revised business plan.
